Committees

Standing Committees

The SGVDS has several Standing Committees that help the Board carry out its work and advance the Society’s mission.
All committee chairs are appointed by the President with the Board’s approval, unless otherwise stated.
Each committee includes a Chair and at least two members, who must be active, dual, life, or retired SGVDS members.
Directors-at-Large may also serve as Committee Chairs.


Bylaws/Governance Committee

Purpose:
Oversees SGVDS’s governing framework, ensuring effective systems, processes, and compliance with CDA and ADA bylaws.

Composition:
Chair, President, Vice President, Secretary, and any active members appointed by the Chair.

Key Duties:

  • Review and update bylaws and policies.

  • Ensure accountability and effective governance practices.


Continuing Education (C.E.) Committee

Purpose:
Plans and administers SGVDS’s educational programs for members.

Composition:
President (Chair), Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Executive Director, and optional Directors-at-Large or active members.

Key Duties:

  • Research and schedule CE programs for the upcoming year.

  • Coordinate in-person and virtual CE events.

  • Develop new programs to enhance member engagement and non-dues revenue.


Finance Committee

Purpose:
Oversees the Society’s budget, reserves, and financial health.

Composition:
Treasurer (Chair), President, Vice President, Secretary, and Executive Director.

Key Duties:

  • Review and recommend the annual budget for Board approval.

  • Oversee reserve fund management.

  • Conduct annual reviews of employee salaries and benefits.


Legislative Committee

Purpose:
Advocates for the dental profession and public health at the local and state levels.

Composition:
Chair and members appointed by the President.
